Side by Side
Greater one-horned rhinoceros | Rhinoceros unicornis
ABOUT THE PHOTO
A mother and daughter pair wade and bathe together at a Dudhwa wetland, their armoured
skin almost matching in folds and pattern as they cool off side by side. Greater one-horned
rhino calves stay close to their mothers for nearly two to three years, learning territory and
feeding grounds before venturing off on their own — a quiet, tender moment between the
two, captured mid-bath in the early light.
